at Immaculate Conception Academy
A "tour of the culture of Japan" was presented to the 4th, 5th and 6th grade class by JOI Japan Outreach Coordinator A. Ono. The students greatly enjoyed learning about a typical Japanese school day. The learned to count, and make an origami cup and had a small taste of Japan with an onigiri.
at Northern Kentucky International Festival Week
JASGC participated in a fascinating lecture on the Japanese tradition of anime movies. If you thought they were just cartoons -- they are not. Key messages of several films were identified and discussed. The discussion was concluded with the question, "who really is the target audience -- parent or child?".
at Georgetown Ohio Police Cadet Diversity Training
JASGC held a Japanese culture training seminar as part of divesity training for police cadets conducted by the Ohio Attorney General's Office.
at JASGC with our Friends from the Cincinnati Regional USA
JASGC held a first ever Halloween Ikebana event. We offered a Sogestsu School Ikebana lesson for our friends at Cincinnati Regional USA. This was a true combination of cultures as made our arrangements in hollowed out pumpkins -- spiders optional.
at the Governor's Mansion
JASGC attended the "Ethnic Leaders of Ohio" event with Governor Kasich
We presented him with the great story of the Japanese businesses in the region,
"over 100 Japanese businesses providing over 10,000 jobs"
at the Greater Cincinnati World Affairs Discussion Table
Representatives from Kosovo, Phillipines, Portugal, Barbados and Mr. Ryuichi Funatsu
from the Japan Foreign Ministry came to anchor a discussion on conflict resolution.
at the World Choir Games Kickoff
JASGC with Gifu Sister City cohosted a booth for the World Choir Game Kickoff on
Fountain Square; Visitors could have their name written on a bookmark in Japanese
calligraphy, Cincinnati Aikido gave demonstrations, and the "little Sakuras" sang songs
at Lawrenceburg Library; main branch and North Dearborn
JASGC was invited to the libraries as part of their "Around
the World" reading program. Carolyn led them through "all
things Japanese" -- geography, customs, games, and crafts.
at Crayons to Computers
These associates learned by experience how their factory's discarded
component containers are recycled into learning games and tools for
school children in the Cincinnati area. You can view a collage of their

at U.S. District Court
The U.S. District Court invited JASGC to hold their diversity training session for
2011 to a group of 40, which included Honorable Timothy Black. JASGC presented
"Working in Japan: the Office as Family" and enjoyed origami with all.
